California Was Calling, and I Was Ready to Answer
Jan 11, 2025California has been calling my name for years. It’s been on my bucket list, waiting for the perfect moment to align. So, when I decided to attend the ROI: Millionaires Summit, it felt like a dream in motion. I was like a kid gearing up for their first trip to Disneyland—thrilled, a little nervous, and full of anticipation.
The ROI Summit, created by Rachel Rodgers and the Hello Seven team, is more than a conference. It’s a transformative gathering of women, particularly those from historically excluded communities, who are building or envisioning 7- and 8-figure businesses. Rachel built this space because, too often, other similar rooms aren’t welcoming to women like us—ambitious, driven, and determined to rewrite the narrative.
For me, this summit wasn’t about already being a millionaire. It was about stepping into the energy of women who have built thriving businesses and others who boldly declare they are ready to grow. I wanted to be in that room—to learn, connect, and soak in inspiration.
But life has a way of testing your resolve. Just days before the event, Rachel made the courageous decision to postpone the summit due to the fires ravaging parts of California. Her choice wasn’t just about logistics; it was a testament to the values of compassion and community. She wanted to give attendees, staff, and speakers directly impacted by the fires the space to prioritize their families and well-being.
At first, I felt a twinge of disappointment. I’d prepared so much for this moment. But almost immediately, I felt something else: gratitude.
In the weeks leading up to the summit, I had immersed myself in Rachel’s teachings and joined Zoom calls with other amazing women attending. This process wasn’t just about preparing for an event; it was about preparing for alignment. It reminded me of something I’d learned from Stephanie Perry, a YouTuber I’ve followed for years.
Stephanie teaches Black women how to take sabbaticals and move abroad, creating lives where they can thrive free from the stress and “weathering” that often comes from navigating life in the United States. Her work is a constant reminder that bold decisions—like stepping into a room full of seven-figure women or choosing to live life on your terms—are the key to living authentically. Stephanie’s influence gave me the confidence to pursue opportunities like ROI, even when fear or self-doubt crept in.
This isn’t just about attending conferences or moving abroad—it’s about living boldly. It’s about saying yes to opportunities that stretch you and push you closer to the person you want to become.
So, while the summit’s postponement could feel like a setback, it’s actually a moment of alignment. I’ve been reminded that the Universe is always working in my favor, even when plans change. And when the summit is rescheduled, I’ll be even more prepared to show up fully. Plus, as a bonus, I’ll now get to stay for the grand finale, the Black Rodeo—an experience I thought I’d have to miss!
Here’s what I’ve learned: when plans shift, we have a choice. We can get frustrated, or we can get grateful. Gratitude has become my daily practice. Every morning, I spend 20 minutes in gratitude, manifestation, and prayer. I’ve learned that when you align your energy with your vision, God (or the Universe) moves to make it happen.
This journey has also reminded me to protect my dreams. Not every goal or vision needs to be shared with everyone. Oversharing can invite doubts and fears from others that weigh you down. Instead, I’ve learned to quietly do the work, celebrate the progress, and let the results speak for themselves.
So, how do you handle unexpected changes? Do you let them frustrate you, or do you see them as opportunities for growth and alignment? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
If you’re on your own journey—whether it’s about business, personal growth, or stepping boldly into new opportunities—know this: your vision matters. Stay the course, trust the process, and keep showing up for yourself.
